Curriculum

According to Saint John Paul II, “In the Catholic school there is no separation between time for learning and time for formation, between acquiring notions and growing in wisdom. The various school subjects do not present only knowledge to be attained but also values to be acquired and truths to be discovered” (“Ad limina visit of bishops” May 30, 1998).

All subjects are taught through the lens of Scripture and the teachings of the Church. Our curriculum consists of religious education, mathematics, language arts, reading, science, and social studies. In addition, we offer physical education, media literacy, art, music, band, and Spanish.

We teach our students to become active, life-long learners, and give them the basis for essential skills in critical thinking, problem solving, and communication. We believe that students learn differently, thus, our teachers use many proven educational methods to teach students and meet objectives.

As part of our ongoing curriculum review, in 2018 the staff and Educational Policy Committee decided to align our curriculum standards with those of the Diocese of Lansing.  We continue to work on aligning our standards with theirs, following their model of one subject per school year. We share fully in their curriculum management program, which allows us additional support of diocesan teachers and staff. Further information is available on the Diocese of Lansing Education website.
